Home Sweet Home: Building Holiday Traditions TogetherDecember 13, 2017 9:07 pm
The Gingerbread Festival has returned this year! We have over 40 beautifully decorated gingerbread houses on display. Visit the hotel and step into our gingerbread village.
The festival allows decorators to showcase their talents. Builders use only edible materials on the houses. Tons of creativity is on display. And sugar!
Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley is a wonderful partner for this event. The festival builds gingerbread houses to help Habitat build actual houses for local families.
The festival raises money through donations at the exhibit and Participant Entry Fees. All proceeds from the festival benefit Habitat.
Nicole Slattery is our Marketing Manager and director of the event. She loves the creativity of the builders and the terrific cause the festival supports. “This event really goes hand in hand with what Habitat is all about: the community and giving back. Not only do the creations that come through our doors amaze me, but also the community’s generosity with their donations.”
Habitat has built homes for local families to live in for over 25 years. By the end of this year, they will have completed 100 homes. Check out their video from the most recent home they built. Spending the holidays in a home of their own will be special for this family.
Enter the Village
The builders have worked hard to create these edible masterpieces. Visit our gingerbread festival from Monday, Dec. 11 to Wednesday, Dec. 27 and see our decadent display of gingerbread works of art.
You cannot travel through the gingerbread village without a stop at the Blennerhassett Coffee Bar. A Starbucks® Gingerbread Latté or one of their other seasonal favorites is the perfect treat. And our pastry Chef Erin’s supply of holiday treats will fulfill any cravings that arise.
Selecting the Winners
Our builders decorate their houses for display, but we must make sure they are up to code. Our fine panel of judges will examine the houses and award prizes for the top builders. The festival consists of three categories: Adult (18 & up), Junior (13 – 17) & Child (Under 12). We will grant prizes to the architects for first, second and third place in each category.
We need your help! Vote for the People’s Choice Award as you stroll through the Gingerbread Festival. Place donations in the box of your favorite houses. The award goes to the house with the most money collected. Voting for the award is a donation to Habitat.
Revealing the Winners
Join us on Friday, Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. for a Facebook Live event to announce our Gingerbread Festival Awards! We will showcase the houses and place ribbons on the winning creations.
“We are lucky to have such talented artists entering their gingerbread houses. And being able to support such a great cause makes it even better,” Slattery said.
