Weekend Getaway

Twenty-four hours, which the package name counts in minutes. A West Virginia welcome basket lands in the room: pepperoni rolls, Holl’s Swiss chocolates from Mount Clare, Mr. Bee’s potato chips, and cookies baked that day.

Blennerhassett Island
From $249, May through October
The island the hotel is named for sits in the Ohio River, and the sternwheeler that runs out to it leaves from Point Park, three blocks from the front door. The crossing takes about twenty minutes.
On the island: the mansion and museum, a horse-drawn wagon tour of the grounds, and the shop. The same ground where the 1806 conspiracy was laid.

Discovery World, for families
From $489 per night, family suite
A family suite and four tickets to Discovery World on Market Street. The suites are the point: two of them are built for groups rather than adapted for them.
The Kaltenecker Family Suite, room 409, sleeps six across a downstairs living area and a second-floor master. It connects to room 407 to take eight. The Margaret Blennerhassett Family Suite, room 503, sleeps six, with French doors between the living and dining area and the master.
Pack and plays are provided. Air mattresses are available on request in select king rooms.
